Celebrating National Friendship Day
National Friendship Day is the first Sunday in August. Schedule a friend date to watch your favorite movie together, get mani-pedis, go for a walk in your favorite foldable ballet flats
or enjoy mimosas at brunch. You're sure to have a fun day when it's spent with your friend. Here are five more ways to celebrate the day.
Try Something New
Doing something for the first time can be scary. With your friend by your side that fear can turn into laughs and a whole lot of fun. Use the day to try something new with your friend. Go skydiving together, take a cooking or dance class, or try ziplining. Commit to a new exercise program, set goals and hold each other accountable. Even trying a new restaurant and ordering something different can make a fun memory.
The Long Distance Friendship
Sometimes our closest friends are the farthest away. Those friendships can be tough to keep. Send your friend a card thanking her for her friendship. Share some memories and tell her why she's important to you. You could even include a framed photo of the two of you!
Give to Your Friend
Great friends are great because they selflessly give to each other. Rather than spending the day with your friend find a way to thoughtfully give her your time. Offer to babysit her kids for the day. Wake up early to weed her garden or wash her windows without her knowing. Take care of that thing that she never seems to have time to do herself.
Talk to Your Kids About Friendship
Children have the incredible ability to become best friends instantly with any kid on the playground, but learning the qualities of what makes a person a true friend has to be taught. Be intentional with the day by talking with your kids about friendship. Use your kids' favorite books or movies as examples of good or bad friendships.
Make a New Friend
Have you lived in your home for eight months but still haven't met your neighbor? Knock on the door to introduce yourself and offer to go for a walk. Invite someone from your exercise class, church or work out for coffee. You may be crossing paths with your new best friend regularly but your friendship won't begin until you take that first step.
